Apis cerana [:ah. Amony these 40 species. only 20 kinds of them demonstrated siynificanr pollen and or neclar sources of the bee. They were Amaranthus spinosus Linn.. Ageratum conyzoides Linn.. Apiary located in the province of Chiang Rai during September - November 1982. From 215 queens raised for the experiment, 168 queens mated successfully and returned to the mating nuclei. Only one queen did not mate. The mating success was 78% which was in the normal range of the rate of success in commercial queen rearing operation in the temperate region i.e. in the U.S. Altogether 46 queens (21.4%) were lost. This was probably due to the present of predator hornets and insect-eating birds within the vicinity of the apiary. Egglaying of the mated queens commenced when the queens were 7 - 14 days old. The majority of the mated queens (80.4%) started to lay eggs when they were between 9 - 12 days old. Again, the age of egglaying of the queens raised for the experiment was within the same range of that of A. rneZZifera queens produced in the temperate. |

Pomelo, cultivar Tongdee, pollinated by honey bees was found to produce numerous fruit sets. In the open pollination and in cages with bees, 54 and 67% fruits were produced respectively while the ones with both insecticides and neem extract applications gave only 44, 34 and 36% fruits respectively. In cage without bees the lowest of 18% fruits set was observed and with percent fruit drop was as high as 61. Percent fruit drop was also noticed to be higher in the groups of insecticide treatments than neem extract treatment. In addition, more symptoms of thrip damage occurred in the untreated groups than in the treated ones. |

The result indicated that most of acaricides gave highest toxicity to the honey bee. Dicofol (Kelthane?), and bromopropylate were found to be moderately toxic to the honey bee whereas coumaphos (Azuntol?), phosalone (Zolone?), coumaphos (Perizin?), dicofol (Rotramite?) and amitraz (Mitac?) were highest toxic. The result also showed the acaricides with different formulations showed different toxicity to the honey bee. |
